Fujii Kaze: Tiny Desk Concerts JAPAN

Suraya Mohamed | April 12, 2024 In the corner of a busy office at the NHK Broadcasting Center in Shibuya, Tokyo, a staffer rearranged books, vinyl records and tchotchkes on a bright red shelving unit. The production crew double-checked equipment settings and made small adjustments to the lighting. Another worker added a few more posters to the tall white file cabinets. Cameras were set and microphones were ready because Fujii Kaze and his band had just rehearsed the night before. Everyone in the room — including a few of us from NPR that were there to help — was eager and excited because the very first performance for Tiny Desk Concerts JAPAN was about to start. Popular around the world, the talented Fujii Kaze is a Japanese singer and pianist known for his sultry R&B grooves and catchy songwriting. His adventurous spirit was strong as he settled into the Tiny Desk way — a concert that's intimate, mostly acoustic and recorded without reverb, effects, in-ear monitors or wedges. During the rehearsal, the band quickly acclimated to the environment and adjusted instrument volumes to hear each other better. The end result was a beautiful 30 minute set, captured without pause and with no stops, restarts or retakes. This video is part of the second international version of Tiny Desk, a joint venture between NPR and The Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) — the sole public media organization in Japan that is operated with the purpose of providing the latest news, education and culture both domestically and internationally. This new series will spotlight emerging and established Japanese artists with the same engaged performances, look and feel of the original Tiny Desk Concerts series. KIDILL SPRING / SUMMER 2025 COLLECTION “999”

KIDILL SPRING SUMMER 2025 COLLECTION “999” PARIS FASHION WEEK 18TH JUNE 2024 The special encounter and years of exchange between Hiroaki Sueyasu with Ho99o9 duo consisting of theOGM( BlueFace ) and Yeti Bones(Eaddy ) provided inspirations for the 2025 S/S collection was latent. Fascinating influences from adoration and sublimating to new creations. The constant aesthetic that Sueyasu expresses through KIDILL became more apparent through a relationship that began almost two years ago. Ho99o9, who embodies a desire for progress and an inimitable sense of beauty through their frenetic appearance, music, performance, and costumes, perfectly encapsulated the style of KIDILL. Sueyasu says, "I was impressed by the essence and attitude that runs through all their styles, and this spontaneous empathy brought unprecedented imagination to KIDILL." The iconic wedding dress that eclipse the body, remarkably unique DIY live costumes gives a direct notion of “their usual style”. The imagination bound from the cluster of these facts is not only seen from the graphics and the embroideries of Ho99o9, but in the myriad of the zippers and the padlock fastening front detail, sleeveless denim vests and the symbolical use of the laces heavily infuses the evolution of the customizing spirit. Interestingly, Sueyasu feels "a Tokyo-ness" from the presence and the frame of mind of Ho99o9. Somewhat a sensory subjectivity that the designer has experienced over the course uniformly linked to the essence of the street style of Harajuku, especially the Lolita style. Hence, it coexists in the collection as an inevitable exhalation appearing through Kae Tanaka's graphics, dresses and decors, the “philosophy of the consistency in the unity of choosing and wearing clothes”. In addition, Sueyasu uninhibitedly expanded his designs with items deconstructed from vintage metal band T-shirts, a bandolier bag that holds tattered and eroded textures and bullets, sleeveless tailored jackets, and vintage trousers created by the tailors. The deep-seated fact found through the multiple collaborations of KIDILL is still showing the power to usher in the punk of the future. Track jackets, pants, and game shirts in collaboration with UMBRO, ironic one-of-a-kind masks and hats with HIZUME are just a few examples. “PROTECT MY BASIC" is a straightforward and powerful affirmation that points to the core of the matter. The code "999" masked in Ho99o9 is a premonition to the next stage of evolution and of an as-yet-unseen setting. This angel number is an inversion of the devil's number 666, and the boundless context of 1000-1 is loaded with infinite possibilities of q progressing mysticism, representing the current state of mind of Sueyasu. Movie Director : Minori Murata Movie Music : HO99O9 Show Director : Michio Hoshina *PLANKTON Stylist : Tatsuya Shimada Hair Stylist : Kunio Kohzaki Make-up Artist : Kanako Yoshida *lga management Casting : Taka Arakawa, Jose Maria *ALTER Production : Devi Sok Collection Photos : Ko Tsuchiya Backstage Photos : Ko Tsuchiya, Flo Kohl Show Coordinator : Azusa Nozaki Writer : Tatsuya Yamaguchi Artwork : HO99O9, KAE TANAKA, ohiana Collaboration : HO99O9, UMBRO, HIZUME, RICHMOND KNITWEAR, KIRIN TAILORS, ACUPUNCTURE, Deadly Sweet, YUUKI IWAMA, NC, rurumu: International Press : Totem fashion Japan Press : Sakas PR Support : Dr. Martens KIDILL Designer : Hiroaki Sueyasu

KIDILL FALL / WINTER 2024-25 COLLECTION "WHATEVER HAPPENED TO PUNK"

KIDILL FALL WINTER 2024-25 COLLECTION “WHATEVER HAPPENED TO PUNK” August 2023,  we received the news of the passing of Jamie Reid, British artist of the Sex Pistols infamous covers and logos, and continually being connected since the collaboration for Fall-Winter 2020, Hiroaki Sueyasu mentions, “Jamie was my very starting point”. Sueyasu adds, the loss of something I believed would be in existence somewhat eternally  is like a void, he was a stranger but he was also portraying me.  Even though Jamie and the other remarkable figures who created early punk have left us, it is our duty to ensure that the essence of punk, that has influenced our time and our people in countless ways to persevere.  I would like to offer my condolences inimitably, declaring that 'they are eternal’. "Even if its categorized as a typical classic," Sueyasu says that sometimes a completed style runs the risk of becoming the object of iconography, of being reproduced, consumed, and becoming reduced to a formality over time. On the other hand, he is convinced that stylized/ conventional beauty will absorb the diversity of the trends of the time, and will live on into the future while being reduced to the present. The preeminent theme for the Fall-Winter 2024 collection is not simple destruction or denial, but the positive energy of those who live in the same era continuing to reboot the “punk”. The collection, with its DIY-inspired embellishments, prints and jacquard weaves by Japanese artisans, is an exploration of the intersection of early punk classicism and modernity in design, silhouette, and the essence of detailing. Sueyasu odes the praises of "punk" through an array of excessive destructs,  reviving of FOSTEXGARMENTS MA-1s, ripped denim, and vintage-washed-out cut-and-sewns/t-shirts/ tops. The direct message of this season’s KIDILL collection lies in the basis of the half century history of punk with its unchanging identity and attitude is no longer for only a specific group of people.  Punk has long since departed from the insularity interpreted from its appearances/looks, but has been inherited by many as a spirit of protest and rebellion of their own, driving the evolution of a modern, independent culture, and becoming a value system that respects individuality through freedom and expression.  Sueyasu's return to the roots is a channel of its origins, proclaiming the rebirth and renewal for KIDILL.  “As a matter of fact, my initial impulse and resistance remains the same. 私はシンプルなのです」 Movie Director : Minori Murata Movie Music : CycheoutsG Show Director : Michio Hoshina *PLANKTON Stylist : Tatsuya Shimada Show Music : CycheoutsG Hair Stylist : Kunio Kohzaki Make-up Artist : Kanako Yoshida *lga management Casting : Taka Arakawa, Jose Maria *ALTER Production : Devi Sok Collection Photos : Ko Tsuchiya Backstage Photos Photos : Kyohei Hattori, Flo Kohl Show Coordinator : Azusa Nozaki Writer : Tatsuya Yamaguchi Artwork : Jamie Reid, Tom Tosseyn, maya Shibasaki, ohiana Collaboration : Dickies, Fostex Garments, HIZUME, Malcolm Guerre, rurumu: International Press : Totem fashion Japan Press : Sakas PR Support : John Marchant Gallery, Dr. Martens, Instant Icon KIDILL Designer : Hiroaki Sueyasu PARIS FASHION WEEK 16TH JANUARY 2024

KIDILL FALL / WINTER 2023-24 COLLECTION "ENFANT TERRIBLE"

KIDILL FALL / WINTER 2023-24 COLLECTION "ENFANT TERRIBLE" The feelings that overflow from an individual, pure and unclouded, are like the “water” that fills a depleted vessel. Hiroaki Sueyasu, ruminating on his fundamental mindset toward creation, strongly reconnects with his “core,” which he assures eternal, through the Fall-Winter 2023 collection. Sueyasu being devoted to the masterpieces and countless films of Spike Jonze, Harmony Korine, Danny Boyle, and the documentaries of the Z-Boys capturing the precarious atmosphere of teenagers, depicting a dangerous connection between the sense of loss and the everyday life of youth-including skating and punk, creating empathy on a spiritual level to find all the beauty and ugliness in the unevenness of each life, the confusion and salvation, shadow and light. The events that coincide with the old skate are the most proximate to the collection. Through the collaboration with DC SHOES and DC skaters, Sueyasu’s most present-tense emotions are clearly expressed in the collection. He applies multi-prints to military materials that evoke the DIY atmosphere of old skateboarding which landed a meet of the tweeds and tulles and pursued on to the unexpectedness of the combination of the bijoux and the ribbons. Foregrounding the do-it-yourself spirit more than ever was a manifestation of the skaters’ reverence for a mindset that values freedom, and the most unrestrained approach to conjure the “core” of Sueyasu more than ever. In addition to the ample perceptions captured by the ongoing dialogue with many collaborators, and with the noise ambience of Wong Kar-wai’s films - the smoky air, the dreary grass and flowers, the decadent and chaotic mood, the sharp gaze gliding the gender gap eliciting the texture of a deteriorated wall paper reflected in the combination of denim and girl prints adding to the quintessential of KIDILL’s interpretation of the boy’s look inducing the masculinity and the charm at the crux of the collection. Thus the image of each individual living their days and immersing themselves in skating as to fill the void of depletion, and dissatisfaction, only then can they discover another reality and desire of their own, developing a connection with their peers to be saved. The decisive purity being the outset of their actions synchronizes with the “essential freedom” that Sueyasu himself continues to covet throughout his life. “Fashion saved me,” he said, recalling the fateful initial impulse that led him to start his creations in London, following his own feelings alone. “I am saved as in the past by moving my hands as I desire to customizing vintage clothes without refrains. I can plunge my frustrations both residing in reality and imagination to form a structure to my “likes”, a fact that will never not change. Although the “likes” sometimes binds us, at the same time brings out freedom. What is certain for oneself is to be eternally connected to one’s “core,” which is pure, and believable. This is the beauty of one's own style. Whatever name may be given to, processing on updating, never standing still, and never feeling left to run dry to construct a new counterpoint. The enfants terribles is the current statement of KIDILL. No one can live alone No one can bear the weight of grief alone Shivering in the freezing building wind Exhaling to warm my numb heart If I could be a little kinder than I am now If I were not afraid to connect with someone Even if I'm tormented by invisible malices Even if I'm not right Across that moon river Little by little we go, wandering Because I want to see many worlds with you I don't need a signpost With you next to me And I'm right here I want to breathe with you I want to swim through this world with you Till we drift to some place faraway Till we can laugh in a world we've never seen If I could just hold hands only with you If I could just endure the nights only with you Even if there's nothing to believe in Even if we're no more than two lonely things With you, I can live
